November 5th is an important date for the English. They get together in their towns and cities to celebrate bonfire night.
They have a big fire (bonfire), usually in a park. They also have fireworks and eat toffee apples (apples with a coating of hard toffee).
The festival commemorates the anniversary of an attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament called the gunpowder plot. Traditionally, a dummy is put on the fire representing Guy Fawkes who was part of the famous gunpowder plot.
